Residents of Norton Street, Lodge have lauded the Ministry of Public Works, for filling the potholes that have been on the road for a number of years; however, they want speed humps to be placed at various intervals of the street to control speed.
Speaking to Stabroek News yesterday Satasha Sobers, the daughter of the late Orin Sobers who succumbed to his injuries a few hours after being hit by a minibus trying to swerve from a pothole, said that the authorities should now put speed humps along the roadway.
“They should now put the humps in the area now that the road is smooth; it only gives the drivers more advantage to speed more” she related.
According to the residents the Ministry’s workmen only came on Sunday to asphalt the area after they temporarily filled it with sand and stone.
The residents had initially expressed their outrage by burning unwanted items and tyres across the street following the accident which resulted in the death of Sobers on January 8. This resulted in a quick response by the Ministry of Public Works which dispatched workmen to the area to assess the damage and carry out repairs.
