A woman who was charged with assaulting another at Lamaha Park and then allegedly assaulted a prisoner at the East La Penitence Police Station was yesterday admitted to bail in the sum of $20,000 after appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
It is alleged that on January 15 at Lamaha Park, Georgetown, Yolanda Taylor unlawfully assaulted Marquetta Hillman.
On the same day Hillman is also alleged to have unlawfully assaulted Taylor.
Both women denied the charges when they were read to them at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Additionally, Taylor also denied that on January 16 she unlawfully assaulted Tiffany Clarke who was in lockups at the East La Penitence Police Station on a murder charge.
Presenting the prosecution’s facts, Corporal Jairam Luckhai said that after an assault altercation between Taylor and Hillman at Lamaha Park, the two were then taken into custody at the East La Penitence Police Station.
While Taylor was in the lock-ups, Luckhai said, she reportedly assaulted Clarke.
When given a chance to speak however, Taylor said that she never did anything to Clarke.
According to her, Clarke sharpened a toothbrush and ran into her with it in a bid to stab her.
When asked, the prosecution told the court that Taylor and Hillman had since been released from police custody.
After listening to the case, the presiding magistrate informed Hillman that she would be placed on $10,000 bail and Taylor, $20,000 bail; $10,000 for charge.
Their matters were transferred to Court Six for January 23.
