Dear Editor,
In my letter dated October 8, 2011 in SN captioned, ‘Old age people should not be employed as security guards‘ I referred to Mr Adolphus James who was murdered. He was a 91-year-old pensioner and a security guard. I said then that the old age pension cannot maintain people, which is why so many have to seek extra work. $7,500 per month at $250 per day can hardly buy one meal, much less three meals. I hope the old age pension would now be raised to $10,000 per month. In the election campaign, the PPP/C government did not promise old age pensioners a cent‘s raise. Mr Granger of APNU promised to double the old age pensioners‘ money, also Mr Ramjattan promised to raise the pension, so may God bless these two men to remember the old people. The PPP/C only thinks about Mr Bharrat Jagdeo‘s three million dollars per month – a young man without a wife or children. Mr Granger and Mr Ramjattan should see that an increase in the old age pension is included in this year’s budget.
Yours faithfully,
Rudolph Singh
