Teen charged with murdering cousin remanded until Jan 24

The 17-year-old implicated in the murder of Orin Anthony Forde appeared at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday last and was remanded until January 24.

Mark Major was charged with the murder of his cousin, Forde, of Lot 12 Helena No. 1, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.

Forde was allegedly stabbed to death on January 6 at an abattoir where both men were employed.

According to relatives, the two had an ongoing dispute concerning money owed to Major.

It was indicated that Forde was a miner in the North West District and had returned home after four years to spend Christmas with his family. “He come out de bush and he just went catching he hand there but he don’t really work there,” a family member had said.

They said that he had borrowed $6,000 from Major and had agreed to pay him back with $4,000 interest. However, the deal was broken after Forde only repaid what was borrowed and that sent Major into a rage.

“Orin was supposed to go back in the interior Sunday and like he de wan de money before he go away,” a female relative said, adding that the dispute over the money had been ongoing for the past couple of days . “Mark threaten to kill Orin long now,” she said.
