Dear Editor,
Despite numerous complaints to the various police stations in the Region Five area for years, nothing has been done to quell the blatant and lawless noise nuisance in the village of Hopetown, West Coast Berbice.
There is an after-hours night club that is relentlessly creating havoc with its music, not only in the villages within the community but I was told as far as the Abary Creek as well. It creates a jet-like vibration to people’s houses, even after the legal time limit of playing loud music has passed.
In some instances when complaints were made to the police stations, at Fort Wellington in particular, and the ranks arrived, the owners would turn the music down. Then, no sooner had the police disappeared then the volume would be raised again, this time louder, until 3 am. We, the law-abiding citizens of Hopetown and its environs are repeating our calls to those who are given the power to uphold the law, to please take the appropriate steps to stop those lawless individuals from disrupting our neighbourhood with their loud, lawless, intolerable sounds. We already know, after many years of complaining and numerous visitations by the police, verbal warnings do not work. We are appealing to the police to please take to next step – lay charges. Let them face the full brunt of the law. Do not compromise on the law and hopefully, very soon they would learn a valuable lesson and be able to adapt peacefully to a civilized society. We are looking forward for the continued support of the Fort Wellington police in resolving this issue immediately. We know that their ability to crack such simple cases can make a big difference. We stand by them in full support.
Yours faithfully,
