President Donald Ramotar recently met with representatives from the National Commission on the Rights of the Child (NCRC) who were accompanied by UNICEF Resident Representative Suleiman Braimoh at the Office of the President.
According to the Government Information Agency, the NCRC was established to promote the Convention on the Rights of the Child and monitor services to children, as set out in the National Plan of Action and the World Summit Goals for Children. In 2009, two NCRC commissioners and 15 persons from the Women and Gender Equality Commission were sworn in by former President Bharrat Jagdeo who noted the critical role rights commissions play in improving relations in Guyana.
