On Sunday the first meet of the horse race season runs off at the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club, West Coast Berbice, with $7M up for the taking.
The event, which is scheduled to start at 13:00 hours, has eight races carded on the roster and will be held under the auspices of Winners Circle Pool Hall and Bar.
According to a release from the organizing committee, stables and owners are quickly getting their animals in shape after the off season period.
More than 50 horses have been registered with just over a week remaining to race day.
Already the feature B Class event has an impressive lineup with over $2.3M and trophy in winnings available for the outstanding participants.
Last year’s top performers like The Message, Jet Set Go, Grande De Roja, Donut Prince, Who is on the Case, Who So Ever, Wad Luck, Miss Orientate and Zelick have been registered.
The winner will race away with a sizeable $1.2M and trophy for the 1600m event.
Last year’s rivalry in the Three-year-old category for the Guyana and West Indies bred horses will once again come into sharp focus when Settle in Seattle, Serenity, Red Cloud and Time for a Change collide. The winner will collect $500,000 in the 1200m race.
The newly introduced Four-year-old event is also to be a scorcher as former champions of the Three-year-old category renew their rivalry. The entrants up to yesterday included Technology, Better than Gold, Captain Crook, Swing Easy, Work Force, Damascus Dream, Bridal Stone Corner, Face the Fire, Big Impact and Sabrina’s Joy. The purse for the winner is set at $400,000 and trophy.
The locally bred horses will compete for the top prize of $300,000 and I want Revenge and Watch My Shadow are expected to continue their duel. The E and Lower
matchup, with a first prize set at $400,000, will see Marathon Man, Night Crescendo, De Clever cat, Who So ever, Fresh Again, Home Bush Baby, Dubai Duchess, Majestic, Miss Karina and Face the Music competing.
The rest of the events on the day’s card are the G class gallop set at $300,000. There are events for the I and Lower and the Divisions 1, 2 and 3 horses with the top prize being $200,000 and $150,000 respectively.
