Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton granted a 19-year-old Wismar woman accused of stealing cash and gold jewellery from another person, $250,000 bail when she yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that between January 21 and 22, at Aroaima Berbice River, Neesa McCloud, of 20 Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden, allegedly stole one gold chain, two gold rings and $35,000 all totalling $720,000; the property of Aubrey Samuels.
McCloud was not required to plead to the charge of simple larceny when it was read to her. She was unrepresented in court and asked to be granted bail.
The prosecution did not object to bail, though it requested that it be granted at a substantial sum to ensure that the accused returns to court to stand trial.
No facts about what transpired on the day in question were provided to the court.
McCloud was ordered to appear in the Kwakwani Magistrates’ Court on February 17.
