A Guyana national cricket team minus its two most experienced players in Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan was expected to depart Guyana at 5.30am for Dominica where they will play the first two rounds of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional four day competition which bowls off Friday.
According to information reaching Stabroek Sport, Chanderpaul has been granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the WICB and is expected to be involved in the Bangladesh Premier League.
As a result he is expected to miss the team’s first four matches will of which are expected to be contested abroad.
Sarwan, who was named captain of a team announced by the Interim Management Committee, has reportedly told Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) president Ramsey Ali that he was unavailable and his place will be taken by Royston Crandon, the number one reserve player announced by the GCB.
Veerasammy Permaul, who was named vice captain to Chanderpaul on the GCB team. will now skipper that team with former West Indies Under-19 skipper Leon Johnson as his deputy.
The officials expected to accompany the team are David Black, manager, Esaun Crandon, coach and David Harper, assistant coach.
The GCB and the government set up IMC have been battling for control of the administration of local cricket which led to both organizations announcing squads of 31 and 30 players respectively.
On Thursday, the GCB announced its 14-man team for the championships but the team has been unable to have any net sessions because some of the players attended the IMC scheduled net sessions at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence.
The Guyana team is Veerasammy Permaul, captain, Leon Johnson, vice captain, Rajendra Chandrika, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Narsingh Deonarine, Assad Fudadin, Christopher Barnwell, Darwin Christian, Devendra Bishoo, Brandon Bess, Ransford Beaton and Royston Crandon.
The team was expected to leave the Regency Hotel at 2am this morning en route to Dominica.
