Head of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) set up by the Guyana Government Clive Lloyd last evening said that he was respectful of the West Indies Cricket Board’s latest decision with respect to Guyana’s participation in the annual Regional four-day tournament adding that the IMC was not opposed to the team leaving under the umbrella of the GCB.
“As I’ve always said the cricketers come first and we (the IMC) are not opposed to the players playing as the case was during the Caribbean T20.
“The players are most important since it’s their livelihood and careers as potential future West Indies players at stake. It’s basically the same team that we have selected also, so they go with our blessing,” Lloyd told Stabroek Sport in an invited comment yesterday.
When asked if this means that IMC would now back down since the WICB continues to maintain its position that it is only going to recognize the GCB as the legitimate authority to run cricket in Guyana, Lloyd reiterated past statements he made to the media which is that the IMC was not here to take over the day-to-day running of local cricket, but rather to facilitate in making the getting a new constitution for the GCB, making it accountable and transparent during its six months mandate.
