Buxton resident Lorna Glen and her children were last evening in a state of disbelief and uncertainty after a plum tree collapsed and smashed their home amid pouring rain on Sunday night.
A worried Glen told Stabroek News from a neighbour’s yard at Company Road, Buxton that she, her two daughters and a nephew were at home around 7 pm on Saturday when the tree fell on their home.
“My daughter was feeding her young baby and I was somewhere in the house when this thing just crash on the house,” Glen said. The teary-eyed woman related that amid flood waters, several residents ran to their rescue and pulled the occupants of the house to safety. She said that seven persons, including the baby and a six-year-old lived at the house.
Glen said that after the tree fell on the house, a section of the structure had remained standing, but some time around midnight, the entire structure crashed into the ground. She was grateful that no one was seriously hurt.
The woman said she slept in her neighbour’s small one-bedroom apartment, noting that the neighbour has been helpful to her and family.
Glen said, “everything destroy, meh tv, fridge, gas stove, furniture, and personal documents get destroy in the flood water,” adding that they were unsure as regards their next move.
“I in this water all day. Look is 3 o’clock and I don’t have anywhere to go. I jus pleading for somebody to come and help me; at least, help me with somewhere to stay for the next couple days,” the distraught woman said.
A neighbour related that when the incident occurred she was worried that the electrical wires which lay the flood waters, might have added insult to injury. She said that several quick thinking young men in the area disconnected the electrical wires soon after the incident occurred.
Glen was angry that no one in authority visited the area yesterday to see her plight as she noted that the family will appreciate any form of assistance at this time.
