The man who was struck down and subsequently died on Saturday was yesterday identified as 38-year-old Balwant Mangru.
Stabroek News understands that the accident occurred during the evening hours along the East Bank Demerara and the driver escaped immediately after hitting the individual.
The man was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he died several hours after. The body was later collected by the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour where it is currently being kept. Relatives turned up late yesterday afternoon and positively identified the man.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be performed on the body some time during this week.
