A fire of unknown origin last night gutted a Range House at Lot 334 Timehri, Hill Top opposite the Timehri Red Ground and about half a mile from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport leaving approximately ten families homeless.
According to a resident of the Range House he was in his apartment and around 8:45 pm heard dogs barking. He went out to investigate and discovered the fire. An alarm was raised and the occupants were quickly evacuating from the building while trying to save whatever they could.
He said that the fire was not electrical since there was a power outage in the area when it occurred; he also added that the wooden building was quickly gutted by the flames making it almost impossible to save anything.
Two fire tenders from the Timehri Fire Station arrived promptly on the scene but were unable to save the building.
Ranks from Army Base Camp Stephenson which is located a short distance from the house also assisted in putting out the fire.
There have been no reports of any injuries.
