An auto dealer and his wife were robbed of jewellery and money outside a popular night club and were later attacked and robbed again by the same perpetrators at their home.
Ram Sanasie, Proprietor of Ram’s Auto Sales, was relieved of his gold chain and sprayed with mace shortly after leaving The Edge Nightclub on Main Street yesterday around 4:30 am.
When Stabroek News visited the couple’s Atlantic Gardens home yesterday, Sanasie’s wife, who preferred not to have her name published, said it was a 1-2 minute ordeal in total but left them in shock since they have never had such an experience.
“We get into the vehicle and Ram wind down his window… all I hear is `mace, somebody spray and somebody else pull’… By time he said mace, my eyes and above my mouth start blazing,” the woman said.
She stated that her husband parked the vehicle as it was in the middle of the road and both of them exited. “I come out and I see Ram’s eyes were blood red and water kept coming out of his eyes and I ask he wah happen and he say he just get rob,” she said, adding that there were more than two attackers.
The woman said she opted to drive home since her husband’s eyes were affected by the mace spray and noticed nothing unusual. However, when they approached the gate and Sanasie was about to exit the vehicle, a motorcycle carrying two armed men approached and circled before stopping.
“The boys ride around the vehicle and say `come out’. They grab he and carried him behind the vehicle and the other one pull out the keys and said hand me all the phone, hand me everything ya got,” she said.
She noted that she was only able to save her wedding ring which she took off and hid but several other pieces of jewellery, belonging to her and her husband, were taken. While not in a position then to estimate their losses, the woman said one of her diamond rings that were taken cost between $600,000 and $700,000.
Sanasie said that it was the same men who launched the attack on them just minutes earlier.
The woman said that she is usually very aware of her surroundings but was not expecting another attack like that and as a result, was caught off guard. “I just get rob, I don’t expect to get robbed again,” she said, adding that it is a very frustrating situation for her.
Before leaving the club, the woman said she had attempted to speak to the owner who is friend of hers, but got no satisfaction. She opined that unlike other clubs in Georgetown, The Edge does not have tight security or cameras to capture robberies such as this one.
Stabroek News was unable to elicit a comment from the club yesterday.
