(Barbados Nation) PORT OF SPAIN – Former Trinidad and Tobago prime minister Patrick Manning was airlifted to the Walter Reed Memorial Hospital in the United States yesterday as his family questioned the quality of health care he had been receiving here even before he suffered the mild stroke that left him partly paralysed two weeks ago.
Manning’s sister, Dr Petrolina Manning-Alleyne, a medical practitioner, said that results of important blood tests done by the former prime minister at a public hospital here had been late, which could have contributed to the stroke.
“The results of that test was communicated to us on the 23rd of January,” she said, several weeks late, adding “the value was very low . . . the opportunity for correction had not presented itself to him.
“I would like to know why did it [the results system] break [down] and we need to ensure that what happened there does not happen to him, but also to other people again,” she told reporters.
