Some of the works on display at recent ‘Vision of Freedom’ that wrapped at the African Heritage Museum last Tuesday. The exhibition was organised by the Guyana United Artists (GUA) and Assistant Director of Culture, Colonel Linden Ross said at the opening that it was being held at a time when the Culture Ministry was focusing on the creative arts. “The Ministry is developing the framework for a creative arts institute in Guyana… the mission of this institute is to create well educated, culturally literate and active participants of cultural life in the 21st Century as cultural practitioners, managers, critics and consumers…the Ministry therefore, applauds the GUA for the splendid work they have been doing in showcasing the talent of the members and hopes that it develops a long-term relationship among the cultural practitioners in Guyana,” Ross was quoted as saying by the Government Information Agency. GINA noted that in August, the ministry will be hosting the Inter-Guiana Festival to stimulate and generate support for the development of cultural activities here. The Festival is expected to showcase the works of local artists as well as pieces from Suriname and French Guiana. (GINA photo)
