One week ago, Vanessa Wilson, 30, of Weldaad, West Coast Berbice and her three children, ages four, nine and 11 were left homeless when the house they were living in was gutted by fire.
Wilson, who said the house did not have electricity, was away at work while the children were at school when the fire started around midday. She said she had ensured that the stove was turned off before leaving home.
A labourer at the Guyana Rice Development Board at Mahaicony, she received the call about the fire and she left for the scene immediately.
Her adopted mother, Mary Dennis told Stabroek News she was at the shop when she heard shouts of fire. She and other residents rushed to the scene and formed a bucket brigade but were unable to put out the blaze. The fire tender, she said arrived later but the house was already burnt.
The house belonged to the grandmother of Wilson’s reputed husband who was killed in an accident two years ago. She said she had furnished the house and now she has nothing.
She has been unable to turn out to work and the children could not attend school because their clothing and other belongings were destroyed.
She is asking persons who wish to assist her to contact her on: 663-1765.
