Marian Academy will host its fifth annual blood drive on Saturday, 11 February 2012.
According to a press release from the school, since 2008, the blood drive has been among its major annual projects.
With increasing numbers of units of blood collected – 77 units in 2008, 88 units in 2009, 88 units in 2010 and 138 units in 2011 -Marian Academy’s mobilization of blood donors can be considered very effective and its efforts have placed the school among the top ten institutions which on a regular basis attract new potential donors, the release said.
In this regard, Marian Academy stands as a best practice model since most of the work for the blood drive in terms of mobilizing potential donors, promotion, setting up, decorating and administration is done by the school community with young ‘Marians’ playing a key role.
The Marian Academy Blood Drive is held each year around Valentine’s Day since the school community is convinced that the best way to express love is to help save a life by donating blood or giving support to the mobilization of blood donors.
According to the release, every blood donor is considered a hero. To become a blood donor the person should be 16 years and older, have a minimal weight of 110 lbs, be fit, in good health and not suffering from a cold or other disease at the time of donation.
