(Trinidad Express) Dismissed executive director of the Caricom Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (Impacs) Lynn-Anne Williams has taken her former employers to court.
Williams was fired from her position, with immediate effect, in September last year after financial audits showed she owed the security agency thousands of dollars loaned to her as cash advances.
In documents filed in the Civil Registry of the High Court in Port of Spain, Williams is contending that she is being owed payment of three months salary in lieu of Impacs giving her three months notice of termination of employment. Also named as an intended defendant is the Caribbean Community (Caricom).
Williams claims the amount owed to her is US $88,625.06 after deductions and a deadline of January 18, 2012 was given for payment of the money.
She says her attorneys received a letter, dated January 31, 2012, from interim executive director of Impacs, Francis Forbes who indicated that payment of her final benefits would be put on hold until certain issues were settled.
“By letter of even date, my attorneys-at-law responded to (the letter from Impacs) objecting to the irrelevant and scandalous issues raised therein and requesting payment of my final benefits as agreed, failing which legal action would be commenced,” Williams says in her witness statement.
Her attorneys approached the Court yesterday seeking an injunction preventing Impacs from disposing of, in any way, of its monetary assets held in bank accounts in Trinidad and Tobago.
However attorney Keith Scotland told Justice Vashiest Kokaram that Impacs has given an undertaking to keep the contentious US$88,625.06 until the matter comes up again on March 1.
