National cycling coach Hassan Mohamed will pedal off his second ‘Teach Them Young’ cycling programme for the 2012 season tomorrow at the National Park Circuit, when Olympic hopeful Alonzo Greaves will be challenged to repeat his performance last year when he won the 35-Lap feature race.
The event will be sponsored by the National Sports Commission as part of the Mashramani cycling calendar and Director of Sport, Neil Kumar is expected to present the prizes to the winners in each category.
The programme, which will pedal off at 9am, will include the following 11 events: 12 to 14 years Boys & Girls 3 Laps, BMX Boys Open 3 Laps, BMX Boys 6 to 9 years 2 Laps, BMX Boys 9 to 12 years 3 Laps, BMX Boys 12 to 14 years 3 Laps, Veterans Under-50-years 5 Laps, Veterans Over-50-years 5 Laps, Veterans Over-60-years 5 Laps, Upright Cyclists 5 Laps, Juveniles 10 Laps, and the feature invitational 35-Lap race.
The event, which will be the third on the cycling calendar for 2012, is scheduled to attract the crème de la crème of local cyclists.
Last year’s winners were Alonzo Greaves, who won the feature 35-lap event in one hour, 17 minutes and 58 seconds, and Leon Haymar who finished the 10-lap juvenile category in 23 minutes and 48 seconds. Turhan Harris pedaled away with the Veterans Under-50-years five-lap event in 12 minutes, 32 seconds.
