Dear Editor,
I write this letter with my concerns relating to the amount of filthy blogs orchestrated by questionable individuals in the Guyana Forum – Topix.
I left the shores of Guyana in the 1970s as a teenager, and grew up in an environment where one must upkeep courtesy and manners when dealing in social settings. Personal computers and the internet were not common then.
Now since technology has changed the way we communicate, and with the introduction of social websites and forums, I tend to believe that we are forgetting the same rules of courtesy apply also in the cyber world. I am not endorsing the violation of freedom of speech, but the putrid material posted by political party supporters to vindicate the opposition, in addition to some people having sexual hallucinations while online that results them in posting provocative material should be monitored.
I also observe that the Guyana Forum – Topix is read by many people around the world, and this degrades our reputation as a country with good people.
I advise the Police Commissioner to conduct an investigation on the IP addresses of those posting material with sexual content, libel, slander and those impersonating others on the Guyana Forum – Topix and take action.
Yours faithfully,
Deokumarie Singh
