Horizon Arts Production takes the late Sir Ian Valz’s play Two’s A Crowd to Antigua, where it will be staged on February 24 and 25 at the Multi-Purpose Cultural Centre, St John’s.
According to a press release from HAP, the play stars Gerard Gilkes (Theatre Guild Best Actor 2011), Jennifer Thomas (producer of HAP and winner of the Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress Awards in 1992 & 1996 respectively) and Clement Stanford. The director is Sheron Cadogan-Taylor; stage managers, Allison Gittens and Sandy Thompson, while HAP Production Manager Darren Anthony Mc Almont is doing the behind-the-scenes and preparatory work in Antigua.
Two’s A Crowd has played to rave reviews right here in Guyana with the original cast of Andre Sobryan, Margaret (Kellman) Lawrence and Jasper Adams bringing down the house under the superb direction of Valz.
Meanwhile, the press release also revealed that just over three months ago, the company travelled with a cast to Antigua & Barbuda to perform Fitzroy Tyrell’s play Somebody Gon’ Horn Yuh under the auspices of the Cultural Ministry of the twin island. That production, according to the release, played to a sold-out venue on a three-night run and in addition had to play twice in one night to accommodate the crowd that surpassed the venue’s seating capacity.
HAP is an artistic production company formed by Thomas, Sheron Cadogan- Taylor, George Braithwaite and Bert Whyte in June of 2009 with the aim of providing a platform for the young talent coming out of the Carifesta X Theatrical Training Programme to showcase themselves in the dramatic art form. To date HAP has successfully staged five productions: ‘To Dad With Love 1, 2 & 3’, Somebody Gon’ Horn Yuh and Ronald Hollingsworth’s Watch De Ride.
