Coastal Wanderings, an exhibition featuring the photography of Nikhil Ramkarran and Michael Lam opens on Thursday, February 16 at the National Gallery, Castellani House.
The exhibition is in celebration of Mashramani.
According to a press release from the gallery, the exhibition will feature 40 works of the two photographers and will feature dramatic coastal landscapes, glimpses of busy Georgetown life and unusual views of our built heritage among other scenes. The photographs, the release said, fittingly remind us of the complexity of Guyana, its people and way of life, and particularly “the visual drama and richness that is around us”.
The photographs will be presented in both black and white and colour.
Ramkarran is a lawyer and Lam a computer graphic artist, the release said and they describe themselves as “an amateur photographer” and “a photo hobbyist” respectively.
However, these descriptions do not do justice to their work, the release added, which reveals alertness of eye and sensibility as well as studied concentration that captures details of tone, shape, colour, landscape, architecture and human interaction which records the unique perspective of Guyanese life.
The exhibition will be open to the public from Friday, February 17 and will continue until Saturday, March 17.
