The police say they are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at about 0630h today at Ocean View, Uitvlugt, WCD, during which goldsmith Radha Krishna Chandra, 59 years, and his family were attacked and robbed by two men, one of whom was armed with a gun.
Police say that investigations revealed that Chandra’s nephew Preetam Deeroop went out into the yard to the washroom leaving the door to the home open, and upon his return to the house was confronted by the perpetrators who were inside.
The men then held him at gunpoint along with Chandra and his two daughters and took away a quantity of jewellery valued at $6.5 million, $1.5 million, a laptop computer and five cell phones and escaped in a waiting motor car.
Police say the motor car was later found abandoned at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, WCD.
