The Electoral Assistance Bureau (EAB) has once again moved its public submission report on the 2011 Regional and General Elections to later this month.
“To produce a quite comprehensive and accurate confident report we had to change the previous date given, to some time late this month but definitely before February ends it will be available,” said Abbas Mancey, Project Director of the non-governmental organisation.
He added, “We understand that the public wants to read a copy of the report but you have to understand the complexity of it. We have been struggling with it for a while, be it waiting on Statement of Polls from political parties, some we didn’t get until the beginning of January, to our own internal scrutiny.”
Mancey said, definitively, that this was the last projected report submission date and informed that the report was complete but was going through internal scrutiny. “What I want made clear is that the report has been completed. However it is with the board and our sponsors who are going through it in detail because we want to give accurate observances of the last elections. We had over 1,500 observers and each submitted a report so it’s that and all the other documents that they are right now combing through… I give them another two weeks or so,” he said.
The EAB has been playing a major role in Guyana’s elections since 1992.
