The CARICOM Secretariat has awarded Landell Mills a new contract to review the regional security institutions of the community as part of its restructuring effort, and a team of consultants met with Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee on Friday, the Government Information Agency (GINA) said in a press release.
The team of consultants from Landell Mills included team leader Richard Stoneman; Management Consultant Professor Justice Duke Pollard; and Jurist and Financial Management Expert Hugh Innis. Rohee told the team that the ministry stood ready to facilitate and engage them regarding any initiative that seeks to augment its services -and that of the Secretariat’s, the release said.
Rohee said further that the security matters that the consultant team seeks to address are also of concern to the ministry and while the discussions would reveal areas of commonality and divergence, emphasis must be placed on giving focus to the areas of commonality, enabling national perspectives over regional ones. The ministry is prepared to engage in the discussions to ensure that the country’s interest is represented in formulating a response to the region’s security concerns, Rohee added.
Meanwhile, Landell Mills will review the regional security institutions of CARICOM, and clarify their role in delivering under the regional security agenda. On conclusion of the review, the Landell Mills’ team will make the necessary recommendations to the Secretariat. Addressing the regional security and crime concerns is a key part of the Secretariat’s restructuring agenda, the release concluded.
