(Barbados Nation) Realtor Paul Altman is calling for a heritage tax to be placed on tourists.
Altman, who delivered the Alfred Pragnell Memorial Talk at the Holetown Methodist Church yesterday, said the tax could be applied on a voluntary basis.
He said he was aware that the imposition of a tax could be seen as offensive in some quarters, but the time might be ripe for such an imposition “maybe now that we have this World Heritage status”.
“I know that there are countries and towns that give you the option as a visitor to add a Bds$1, $5 per room night on to your stay. I’m absolutely sure that those things can be done and people would contribute to them,” he said.
