The Guyana Football Federation failed to show up yesterday for a scheduled scheduled meeting with Minister of Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony and representatives of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA).
“We visited the minister this afternoon but the GFF did not turn up,” GFA secretary Christopher Matthias told Stabroek Sport last night.
According to Matthias, the minister’s secretary called them Friday morning notifying them of a meeting yesterday.
In the absence of the GFF, Matthias said they discussed a “few issues with the minister.”
Matthias added that Dr. Anthony expressed concern over the absence of the GFF and about the non resolution of the matter.
The GFA has initiated Court action over the GFF’s refusal to grant them their constitutional rights which would allow the GFA to vote come election time.
“We are prepared to take the matter out of Court. We are also willing to pay the AGM costs. We ask that the GFF restore the constitutional rights of the GFA,” declared Matthias.
Meanwhile acting president of the Guyana Football Federation Franklin Wilson said that he only learnt of the meeting yesterday when the minister’s office called him as he was out of the country last Friday.
Asked if he planned to meet with the minister to help resolve the issue with the GFF, Wilson said that the matter was already being resolved.
He said that the GFA knew what was required of them as that information had been passed on to them by lawyers representing the GFF.
“I’m sure it will be resolved. Our attorneys will deal with the matter,” Wilson said.
Wilson said for the matter to be resolved the GFA must first take the matter out of the Court.
“We can’t negotiate unless they take the matter out of the Court, “Wilson said.
