A man who was allegedly found with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition hidden in the crotch of his pants was on Monday remanded to prison by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
It is alleged that on February 11, at Albouystown, Paul Hamilton had a .32 Browning pistol with seven matching rounds of ammunition in his possession when he was not the holder of a firearm licence in force at the time.
The man pleaded not guilty to both charges after they were read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Police prosecutor Jairam Luckhai told the court that on the day, police ranks were on mobile patrol in the Albouystown area when they stopped the accused, who was riding a motorcycle and conducted a search on his person.
The prosecutor said that the firearm along with the ammunition was found in the man’s pants crotch.
Hamilton was told of the allegation and was arrested and charged, the prosecutor concluded.
Hamilton was subsequently remanded and the matter will be called again on Friday.
