Graphic designer Wayne St. Hill survived three gunshot wounds after he was attacked by a masked bandit, who attempted to rob him of a gold chain at a Mandela Avenue Car Wash on Monday evening.
St. Hill, 31, of Lot 62 Costello Housing Scheme, was shot in his right leg, in the area of his right hip and to the right side of his chest while his vehicle was being cleaned at the West Side Carwash at around 7:00pm.
“I was at the car wash washing my vehicle and this young man come from over the road and he was trying to get his gun out his waist and a shot fire off whilst he trying,” the injured father of two said from his hospital bed.
“After the gun go off and he realized everybody attention was on him, he shoot to the car and everybody run away when I was struggling with him,” St. Hill told Stabroek News. “I fell…before I fell, I feel like he shoot me to ma leg and me and he had a scuffle with the gun and he run away,” St. Hill recalled.
He noted that the bandit attempted to snatch his gold chain but he put up a struggle, which resulted in the piece of jewellery falling to the ground.
While the bullet to St. Hills thigh was removed, the other two remain lodged but he was told by doctors they are not life threatening. Further word on when surgery will be done to remove the bullets was not given, he said.
The man indicated that he has no disputes with anyone and as a result robbery could have been the only motive for the attack.
When asked about the police investigations thus far, St. Hill said the police visited the scene on the night of the incident but he has no knowledge of anyone being apprehended in the matter.
