Three men were yesterday nabbed by police after they allegedly attacked and robbed a woman at La Bonne Intention (LBI), on the East Coast of Demerara.
According to police, the robbery occurred yesterday around 11:30am, when accounts clerk Saraswattie Singh, 49, of Foulis, Enmore, was confronted by two men while walking along the LBI access road.
The men, police said, threw Singh to the ground and relieved her of her jewellery, valued $210,000, and her handbag, which contained $5,000 cash.
An eyewitness said that she heard a low screaming and peeped through her window and saw two men running away and a woman lying in the road.
The police responded quickly to the report received and mobile patrols being alerted.
This resulted in ranks of a TSU patrol stopping a motor car some distance from the scene of the crime and arresting the driver and two other male occupants.
The two men were searched and all the articles stolen from Singh were found in their possession and the men have been positively identified by Singh, police said.
The two suspects and their driver, all of Georgetown, remained in custody up to press time last evening. Charges are expected to be laid against them shortly.
