The Berbice Cricket Board’s (BCB) Special Events Committee and its Coaching Department last Sunday hosted a coaching clinic for junior wicket keepers.
The one-day clinic was held at the Area “H” Ground and attracted 17 wicket-keepers from clubs across the county. Coaches Julian Moore, Winston Smith and Michael Franco-Hyles assisted the young wicket-keepers with the different aspects of wicket-keeping.
The coaches emphasized the importance of physical fitness and discipline for wicket-keepers since they are always involved in the game when on the field.
They also took the opportunity to identify potential candidates for the Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 levels.
Those selected will be included in the upcoming Junior Elite Training Programme to be launched soon. Chairman of the Special Events Committee, Hilbert Foster, said that the BCB will host a one-day Cricket Academy at the Bush Lot Cricket Ground in West Coast, Berbice on Saturday while a fast bowling clinic would be held on Sunday at the Area “H” Ground.
