Jaikishan ‘Josey’ Seebarran, 38, of No 3 Village, West Coast Berbice, who relatives believed was dead after a body washed up at the No 5 Village foreshore on Tuesday has turned up alive.
Seebarran made his appearance as relatives were making arrangements for his wake and funeral. A brother, Dhanraj known as ‘Bill’ had even accompanied the police to take the body to the Lyken’s Funeral Home in Georgetown.
When Stabroek News visited the relatives’ home on Tuesday evening friends and neighbours had gathered to offer their sympathy.
Seebarran told this newspaper yesterday that he was “hiding because I had a problem with a man and he threatened to shoot me.”
He said he decided to return after he learnt that his relatives believed he was dead. With a chuckle, he said when he turned up at the house some persons got scared and believed that they were seeing a ghost.
Relatives had said that although it was difficult to recognize the remains they had suspected that it could be those of Seebarran, a cash crop farmer.
When the body was found, the face was badly disfigured, as though it had been burned with “fire water” [acid] and there were chops to his ears and mouth. The body is still at the mortuary waiting to be identified.
