Dear Editor,
During the busy Christmas season, I visited the Republic Bank on the Essequibo Coast to transact some business; I was there with a friend. Our business finished, we went to the car park in the compound, and departed, oblivious to the fact that I had dropped all my cash at the car park. About an hour or so later I received a call from one of the bank’s employees, asking me all sorts of questions, which I was able to answer correctly. I was then asked to check my bag for the cash and say how much I had. On doing so, I found out to my horror there was no cash, only my ID card and transaction slip. I then told the caller, that I did not have the cash received.
“How much did you receive?” he asked, and when I told him he then asked me to come to the bank right away. So my friend and I went back to the bank and there a smiling young man came towards me with his hand held out, and returned all my money to me. He explained that I had dropped it at the park as I entered the car, he had seen this after we drove off and gone to pick it up before someone else did. He then went into the bank and called everyone who had withdrawn money earlier, to find out who had dropped their cash and how much was involved. I was the third person he called and was able to answer all his questions confirming the money was indeed mine.
I would just like to commend this young employee for his honesty and kindness; he could have done so many things, but he did the correct one, by seeking and finding the person to whom the cash belonged.
Words cannot explain my feelings; on that day and up to now I still think about it. This young man is indeed an honest employee, one that his employer and co-workers should be proud of. Hats off and congratulations and best wishes to him, and may he continue to be an example to his co-workers. He knows who he is.
Yours faithfully,
