An avalanche of goals heralded the start of the Thomas United Mashramani Challenge Cup football competition on Sunday.
The tournament which is being held in honour of the club’s 52nd anniversary, saw Pele Football Club hammering Linden’s Netrockers 8-1.
Gregory `Jackie Chan’ Richardson, Stellon David and Marvin Joseph scored two goals each while the other goal scorers were Solomon Austin and Calvin Shepherd.
Pele goalkeeper Shemroy Arthur concede and own goal.
Austin opened the scoring for Pele in the 31st minute and the goals flooded in thereafter.
Richardson netted in the 38th and 52nd minutes, David in the 43rd and 45th and Joseph in the 70th and 80th minutes.
Shepherd put the icing on the cake with a goal two minutes from regulation time.
In the scheduled opening game Uitvlugt gave Victoria Kings a walkover.
