Digicel promises a mega concert tonight at the Providence Stadium featuring American R&B recording artiste Keri Hilson, Reggae Band Morgan Heritage, Jamaican singer I-Octane and local artistes x2.
At a press conference yesterday at the Pegasus Hotel, the artistes all said they were excited to perform in Guyana and indicated that patrons can look forward to an unforgettable event. Morgan Heritage was not present as the group was expected to arrive early this morning.
The headlining act, Keri Hilson, beaming after receiving a warm welcome, pointed out that she too is a fan of the artistes she is slated to perform with.
“I am so excited to be sharing the stage with people whose music I enjoy such as Morgan Heritage and I-Octane. I frequently visit the Caribbean. I look forward to it… I’ll be bringing the estrogen… bring it strong for my ladies in Guyana,” she said.
When asked what she will be bringing to the table that will attract male fans to the concert, Hilson affirmed that while her focus has always been on the ladies, she has brought her dancers who will make the show all the better.
“Can I be really honest? I don’t care about the men. I do it for the ladies and I think I’m gonna represent for the ladies; what we really think and what we really feel. If guys don’t wanna come, stay home,” the R&B artiste declared.
When a question of how domestic abuse should be handled was put to her, Hilson stated that persons suffering from this form of violence should not accept it and should always be confident in themselves.
“It starts with self. You have to be strong and build your confidence and self esteem up so high that you don’t allow it to ever happen. Don’t accept it… don’t accept any abuse… Be it verbal, emotional or physical. ‘Pretty Girl Rock’ (one of the artiste’s lead singles) is not about all what you’re hearing on that song, it’s about what you feel, that confidence…,” Hilson stated.
To aspiring artistes, she advised that much perseverance is needed to gain success and shared her personal struggle as an artiste to arrive at where she is now in her career. “My journey took 12 years before I was ever able to release an album, but I never gave up. I know way more talented girls, way more beautiful than me, way better singers that gave up along the way because it took too long and now they’re probably very unhappy with their lives,” she said.
Like Hilson, Byiome Muir, better known as I-Octane, will be performing for the first time in Guyana and said he too is very excited. He thanked Digicel for affording him the opportunity.
“I’ll just be doing I-Octane which is high energy, high performance and I’m gonna give it my all… meh gon perform like is meh last show on earth,” he expressed.
