Dr Ramsundar Doobay on Thursday took the witness stand as the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the murder of his wife continued.
Shewraney Doobay, 58, was killed in her Echilibar Villas, Campbellville home on May 24 last year and her nephew, Mark Singh, along with Shakir Mohamed were jointly charged with the crime. Singh, of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, however, subsequently died in hospital.
In addition to the woman’s husband, two other witnesses, Detective Lance Corporal Desmond Johnny and Jaswant Tiwari, the nephew of the deceased, also gave evidence on Thursday, when the matter was called before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
After the witnesses were through with their evidence, they were crossed examined by attorney Vic Puran.
The magistrate told each of the witnesses that they had the right to “add, alter or correct” after she read the evidence they gave to the court. Dr Doobay was also cross-examined by Vic Puran.
The court was told by the prosecution that there are four remaining witnesses.
According to reports, the woman’s battered body was discovered in her kitchen lying in a pool of blood. She had been struck repeatedly in the head with a blunt instrument.
A post-mortem examination conducted on the woman’s body by pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh revealed that she died as a result of eight wounds inflicted to her head.
The PI will continue on March 1.
