The police say they are investigating two armed robberies that occurred today at Cummings Lodge, ECD that led to the arrest of six men and two women and the recovery of an unlicensed .38 revolver with two matching rounds. Three of the men have been identified as being perpetrators in the robberies, police said.
At about 0430h today, students Vivian Rookhum, 31 years, and his brother Frederick Cheong, 30 years, were at their home at 9th Field, Cummings Lodge, when they were held up by two men who entered the building through an open door, police said. The men were armed with a handgun and a cutlass.
The armed men took away their jewellery, a laptop computer, two cell phones and a bicycle and fled.
Then at about 0450h. today police say that businessman Mohamed Khan, 42 years, was in his motor lorry at his residence at 7th Field, Cummings Lodge, when he was confronted by three men, two of whom were armed with a handgun and a cutlass.
According to the police, the perpetrators then took away a bag reportedly containing US$16,440 ($3.3M) and $255,000 and got away.
The police say they responded quickly to the reports received and diligent investigations led to a search on a house at 4th Field, Cummings Lodge, where an unlicensed .38 revolver with two rounds was found and six men and two women detained.
Police say that two of the men have been identified as perpetrators in the armed robbery on Khan and one other identified in the armed robbery on Rookhum and Cheong.
The arrested persons are all in police custody assisting with the investigations, police added.
