Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton remanded a 19-year-old North Sophia man to prison after he appeared before her to answer the charge of attempted murder.
The court heard that on February 16 at Georgetown, the accused Wazim Perreira unlawfully and maliciously wounded Bahadur Leral with intent to commit murder.
The unrepresented Perreira of Lot 111 North Sophia was not required to plead to the indictable offence after it was read to him.
According to the prosecution’s facts, the two parties in the matter are known to each other. On the day, the virtual complainant was standing in front of his premises when he was confronted by the accused. An argument ensued between the duo and the accused stabbed the VC with a knife. Perreira subsequently escaped while the injured man was rushed to a hospital and admitted a patient. The defendant was later arrested and the charge was instituted.
Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail for the accused on the grounds that the VC is still hospitalized and his condition is regarded as critical.
The magistrate granted the prosecutor’s application and the man was remanded to prison. The matter will be called again on March 9.
