A man who pleaded guilty to using threatening and abusive language to his girlfriend was yesterday fined $30,000, when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that on February 19 at Brickdam, Troy Yipp used abusive language to Joan Patrick. On the same day the man also used threatening language to the woman.
He pleaded guilty to both offences.
In presenting the facts, Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield said the defendant was the VC’s boyfriend. He added that on the day, the VC was attending a function in Brickdam when the defendant went there and rang the door bell at the building disturbing the proceedings. After he was spoken to by a priest, Mansfield said, he began to abuse the VC.
The VC subsequently left and the defendant threatened to beat her with his helmet. The woman reported the matter to the police and the man was subsequently charged.
After listening to the prosecution’s facts the magistrate imposed a fine of $15,000 on each of the charges. The defendant was also placed on a one-year bond to keep the peace. Both parties were also warned to stay away from each other.
