GWI is collaborating with the Central Housing and Planning Authority to create a Mashramani float that promotes affordable housing and water conservation.
In a press release, GWI said its float entry will compete in the medium band category as a ‘Queen Costume’ depicting the ministry’s core homes programme which seeks to offer low income workers the opportunity to won their own homes.
Minister of Housing and Water Irfaan Ali noted that citizens have responded positively to the core homes programme and now “hundreds of families are now enjoying the luxury of their own home.”
The costumes are created by designer Derrick Moore and the float by designer Olympia Small-Sonaram. It will feature messages calling for water conservation, a key component of GWI’s Public Educa-tion Programme, and include aspects of its popular National School Education Programme “H2O Kidz ‘N’ Action. It will also depict a village of core homes. More than 50 revellers from the ministry and its agencies are expected to tramp through the streets in this parade.
