(WICB) Roseau, Dominica — Stafanie Taylor produced another match-winning performance for West Indies Women as they beat India Women by six wickets to win the fourth T20 International yesterday at Windsor Park. The victory came with three balls to spare and gave the Windies girls a 3-1 lead in the series — with one match still to be played.
The 20-year-old made a well-compiled 37 not out off 58 balls with two boundaries. She added a crucial 46 for the fourth wicket with Deandra Dottin, who made 26 off just 17 balls.
Taylor guided West Indies to 95-4, as they replied to India’s 94-5 off 20 overs. The best bowler for the Windies was left-arm spinner Shanel Daley, who was again impressive with 3-14 from four overs.
Speaking after the match Taylor said she was quite clear what was required.
“It was basically a matter and playing straight and batting to the end. Once I stayed to the end we would win. My mindset was quite clear today. I spoke to the coach and he told me not to focus too much on the scoreboard. He told me to focus on being there at the end of the innings and make sure I batted us to victory,” Taylor said.
“Time was not the issue today…there was no pressure to score quickly. We saw India had less than 20 runs in the first six overs when they batted and they ended with close to 100 runs. I looked at that and realized you didn’t have to force the pace in the PowerPlay overs. My only intention was to be there at the end and win the match.”
Taylor added: “This is a great result for the team and I am very happy for everyone in the team. We played very well. We are growing as a team and we are getting the results we deserve for the hard work we are putting in. We have done well in the last few years and we believe we will get better and challenge the other teams in the top four rankings.”
