Trevor Merriman, 22, was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with using an ice pick to rob another man.
Magistrate Allan Wilson, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, heard that on February 22, at Georgetown, Merriman, while being armed with the dangerous weapon, robbed Satish Mohabir of a cellular phone, an ATM card along with cash, amounting to $28,000 in valuables.
The unrepresented Merriman, of ‘B’ Field, Cummings Park, Sophia, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
No account was presented to the court of what had transpired on the day of the incident. However, the prosecution strongly objected to bail, while pointing out the prevalence of the offence. The prosecution also highlighted that on the day of the incident, the accused and an accomplice made good their escape after the robbery.
After listening to the prosecution, the magistrate refused bail for the accused. Merriman was remanded to jail until the matter is called again on March 14.
