Dear Editor,
As one who grew up in the sugar industry in Guyana and whose parents and relatives worked for this now beleaguered industry, I would like to ask a simple question. We learn that the current President, Mr Donald Ramotar, was a director on the Board of Directors prior to the last general election; is he still serving on the Board of Directors of the Guyana Sugar Corporation?
If he is, then he should fix the problem of the current strike at the West Coast of Berbice, and if he cannot, he must resign as a director. But moreso, if he is still a director he should resign now that he is the President of this country and let another person serve in that position, as this may be a conflict of interest problem. And in addition can GuySuCo afford to have so many persons serving on the Board of Directors?
Yours faithfully,
