The Thomas United FC 52nd anniversary Mashramani Challenge Cup football club tournament will resume on Tuesday in Linden with some four Upper Demerara teams vying for two spots to showcase their skills in Georgetown.
On Tuesday, Milerock will play Winners Connection at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground from 6.30pm while Topp XX will take on Amelia’s Ward in the feature game some two hours later.
The competition will really get cracking on Friday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground when Pele will play the winner of the Milerock/Winners Connection encounter.
That game will be followed by the renewal of old grievances when hosts Thomas United take on Victoria Kings.
Taking the field for Thomas United will be former national U-20 midfielder, Ovis ‘Young Haji’ Fraser, from Cayenne; Keith Goppy from T&T and Jermaine Browne from Suriname.
Den Amstel and the winner of the Amelia’s Ward/Topp XX will play on March 7 at the GFC ground and play a return fixture on March 11.
South Georgetown favourites, Western Tigers, join the battle coming up with Seawall United on March 7 and 11.
Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United will join the fray at the quarter final stage against an opponent to be named.
Meanwhile, the organizers continue to receive sponsorship for the staging of the tournament.
The latest support came from Ray Imhoff, owner and distributor of Shell McDoom Gas Station.
