The semi-finals of the NAMILCO football tournament will be played off this evening with a double header at the Tucville ground.
Kick off is at 19:00 hours.
Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Fruta Conquerors marched into the semi-finals of the NAMILCO football tournament following their quarter-finals encounter matches Friday joining Beacons and Riddim Squad in the last four.
The Soldiers scored a 1-0 win over Santos while Conquerors got the better of Georgetown Football Club 4-2.
Desford Williams netted the game’s lone goal in the 10th minute of play as the GDF stayed focus on the top prize of $1 million.
Conquerors continued their winning lead by a hattrick of goals from Pernel Shultz but they were on the ropes against GFC who took the lead in the 7th minute of play from the boot of Alden Lawrence and held on to the advantage for most of the first half.
Shultz scored the first equalizer in the 37th minute and then return to score his second goal five minutes into the second half.
Jahal Greaves pushed Conquerors further into the lead with a strike in the 63rd minute.
Selwyn Williams netted for GFC to reduce the score to 3-2 but Shultz was back on target in the 87th minute to put the issue beyond doubt.
Conquerors will now clash with GDF in the semi-finals while Riddim Squad, losing quarter-finalists will return to play the semi-finals against Beacons following the withdrawal of Alpha United from the tournament.
Alpha had beaten Riddim Squad 1-0 in their quarter-final fixture but subsequently withdrew from the tournament.
Beacons advanced to the last four with an upset with over Sunburst Camptown. The game was decided following a penalty shootout with Beacons coming out victorious 3-2.
The tournament is organized by Fruta Conquerors Club and sponsored by National Milling Company (NAMILCO).
