Near US$5M Chinese grant for Suriname

(de Ware Tijd) PARAMARIBO – Suriname will soon get a US$ 4.8 million grant from China in the framework of strengthening cooperation between both countries. An agreement on economic and technical cooperation will be signed, stipulating the projects on which the grant is to be spent. The signing takes place during an official working visit by Chinese Vice Minister of Trade and Industry Zhong Shan. He heads a Chinese delegation currently visiting the region, with an itinerary that also includes Mexico, Brazil, Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago. The visit to Suriname is scheduled for 29 February through 2 March, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces in a press release. During the visit, items on the agenda will include cooperation in the area of infrastructure and development of natural resources. Investments, avoiding double taxation and abolishing visa requirements for holders of government or diplomatic passports will also be discussed.
