Magistrate Allan Wilson yesterday placed Marexa Ann Paul on $65,000 bail when she appeared before him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with using threatening language to and throwing a corrosive fluid on another woman.
The charges read that on February 23, Paul used threatening language to Shonnette Birk the virtual complainant (VC) and on the said date she also threw a corrosive fluid on the VC with the intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm. Paul pleaded not guilty.
Her lawyer asked that the court take into consideration the facts that her client, who resides at 1645 South Ruimveldt is self employed and has one child who is a minor depending on her.
The lawyer also asked the court to note that the accused and the VC are engaged in a triangular affair and are known to each other.
She also assured the court that her client is not a flight risk.
After there was no objection by the prosecution, Magistrate Wilson granted bail in the sum of $15,000 on the charge of the use of threatening language and $50,000 on the throwing of corrosive fluid charge; thereby arriving at a total sum of $65000.
He also ordered the two to undertake a bond to keep the peace.
