Women leaders of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) pledged to develop and implement programmes that are relevant and useful for communities, when it held a Women’s Forum on Saturday.
In a press release, the PNCR said the meeting comprised current members of the National Executive Committee of the National Congress of Women (NCW), the female Members of Parliament (MPs) associated with A Partnership for National Unity as well as women councillors of the regional democratic councils.
National Chairperson of the NCW Cheryl Sampson outlined some proposals for charting a development course for Guyanese women. She also advised that the NCW must be proactive, visible and vocal in the programmes that are to be developed.
In an address, Project Officer Bevon Currie encouraged the women to organise themselves into NGOs and identify economic and social projects in their communities.
He also identified some of the agencies and organisations that provide funding and encouraged the women to apply and access same. The PNCR said it is cognisant of the fact that its female members are the backbone of the party and in this context participants agreed to ensure that the interests and wellbeing of women in every community is given priority on its agenda.
Participants also agreed on the need to develop and implement programmes that are relevant and useful for their communities, the development of the party and the country.
