Police in Georgetown are investigating two gunpoint robberies which occurred in the city on Tuesday night and may soon know the identities of the suspect.
Crime Chief Seelall Persaud told Stabroek News yesterday that the police may have video footage of the robberies at Popeye’s Restaurant, Vlissengen Road and the mini-mart at Texaco Fuel Station, Mandela Avenue.
Police said in a press release yesterday that the first incident occurred at the fast food outlet and the perpetrators escaped with $389,000.
Reports are that around 20:35 hrs two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm entered the Popeye’s Restaurant and held up the cashier Jacqueline McIntosh.
They took away the cash, escaping in a waiting motor car.
Then around 23:00 hours two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm, entered the mini-mart and held up the cashier Samantha Daniels.
They took away an undisclosed sum of cash and escaped on foot.
Investigations are continuing into both incidents.
